Technical
Requirements:
The USA Judo Junior Judo Rank System includes:
Throwing Techniques, Holding and Escaping Techniques,
Coking and Escaping Techniques,
totaling approximately 110 Techniques.
Note:
Falling Methods (Ukemi) should be the first techniques taught to all new
White Belt students.
Throwing
Techniques:
Regarding
order in which throwing techniques are introduced in the Junior Judo Rank
System, the USA Judo Junior Judo Rank System follows the progression of the
current International Judo Federation (IJF) Gokyo-No-Waza. Usually, three
throwing techniques (throws, counters, or combinations) are introduced in
each Junior degree.
Mat
Holds and Escapes:
Holds
and escapes are introduced early in the system.
All of the major grappling holds, and escapes are included.
The escapes for each hold are shown immediately after the hold is
introduced.
Major Grappling Positions:
The
grappling techniques contained in the USA Judo Junior Judo Rank System are
always shown from one or more basic grappling positions.
Although there may be minor variations in these positions, the
general method of application of the techniques will only change when the
major position changes. Juniors
should learn to apply their grappling techniques in all major
positions. Including one
choke, performed from several different positions.
English
and Japanese Names Are Used for Techniques:
Both common Japanese and English names are used in the
USA Judo Junior Judo Rank
System. However,
common usage, and the inclusion of photos in the text will make
identification of these techniques by name easy for the reader.
Choking
Techniques:
Choking
techniques are introduced at the age of 12 in the requirements for Junior
13th degree. This
is to prepare students for the use of these techniques in competition at
the age of 13.
