Please note the following special Certification announcement by Tim Schultheis, President of Illinois Judo.  The First Aid and CPR certification and re-certification is being presented this Sunday from 1:00 – 3:30pm at the Gurnee Fire Department (see flyer above).  While late in notification, many folks need to have this re-cert on an annual basis to maintain the USA Judo Coaches Certification.  Proof of certification is a requirement so if you do not attend this one, please make every effort to attend another one on your own.

EDITORIAL – DYNAMIC JUDO

DYNAMIC JUDO – this is going to be the operative phrase at the International level for a long time to come.   Dynamic Judo will involve every aspect of training, coaching, refereeing, and teaching.  Understanding this will make you a better competitor, referee and coach.  It will not be an easy transition because while the rules will not change that much, understanding how the rules apply will affect how you play the game.  It will have far-reaching affect on

·        Field of Play (inside and outside) including equipment and judogi requirements

·        Tachiwaza and Newaza (standing and ground techniques)

·        Penalties (minor and major)

·        Scoring (from Ippon to no score)

·        Kaeshi waza (counters)

·        Action – Inaction

·        Golden Score

·        Referee and Judges Actions During a Contest

·        The New World Order of European Influence

·        Medical Protocols for Seniors and Juniors

·        Safety Issues

·        The Fairness Doctrine

·        Professionalism in Refereeing

·        Coach/Competitor Protest Protocols

·        Video Taping Protocols (CARE)

·        Demonstrations of top level techniques not generally seen at the local or even National levels will be demonstrated mat side

The outline listed above will be the basis of a lecture series to be started after the first of the year.  It will be introduced at the Referee/Teachers Clinic in Milwaukee on January 26th and will be in conjunction with the Wahadachi Judo Tournament on the 27th.  All coaches, players, referees and interested parties should attend.  While these are my own opinions, they will be based on commonly observed patterns of behaviors from referees, players and coaches from across 5 unions at the highest international levels.  If you have any questions, please feel free to attend and learn.

LOCAL NEWS

From the IJI President and coincidentally, Tournament Director of the Gurnee Veteran’s Day Tournament

A couple of announcements.

First, our friend, Battalion Chief Barry Henby of the Gurnee Fire Department, has graciously offered to provide a First-Aid and CPR class & certification for Illinois Judo and our neighboring coaches.  As you know, this is a requirement for our coaching certification.  Barry will conduct the class & certification this Sunday, 2 Dec, from 1:00 - 3:30 PM at Fire Station 1, 4580 Grand Avenue, Gurnee.  Please arrive on time and plan to stay the duration if you intend to receive certification.  Apologize if you are receiving this announcement to late to be useful.

Second, we still have not narrowed down where/when we are going to hold the 2008 Illinois Judo Championships.  More to follow soon.

Third, our IJI Treasurer has prepared a current financial statement for our organization.  Please see attachment.  Bottom line:  IJI held many camps & clinics and distributed numerous promotional items this year all within budget without depleting our prior year's balance.  Thanks Frank for your continued efforts.

Fourth, we appreciate all those who competed in and supported the Gurnee Veteran's Day Tournament, 10 Nov 07.  This latest IJI event was a great success.  Please see attached tournament results.

Cuba Training and Competition Opportunity
Cuba will admit USA Judo athletes to compete in the Cuban Senior National Championships in January, 2008, along with a training camp that follows. This constitutes a unique training and competition opportunity. It is NOT pointable.

This opportunity is available as follows:
A delegation to be compromised of AS MANY AS 10 (TEN) Senior "B", or higher, level athletes of either gender. In the event that fewer than 10 Senior "B", or higher, level athletes choose to participate, then the opportunity goes to IJF Junior athletes who have a MINIMUM of 20 IJF Jr Elite Roster points.

If more than 10 Senior "B", or higher, level athletes wish to participate, then the athletes with the highest number of International points at B level or higher will be prioritized, irrespective of weight division or gender. In case of ties, the Senior tie-breaking criteria will apply. For the IJF Juniors, the selection order will be EXCLUSIVELY based on total number of IJF Jr points, irrespective of weight division or gender.

The duration of the trip is approximately January 11 - January 21, 2008.

Coach will be Jhonny Prado. Manager to be named.

Interested athletes should contact Jhonny Prado (CHATA29@aol.com) before end of business on December 4, 2007.

2008 Belgian Ladies Open Competition Announcement – Deadline January 11, 2008
