LOCAL NEWS
Hello Everyone,
We are one week out from our 7th
annual event. So far the response has been great ! We
are expecting our biggest and best event yet. Your support over the years has
led to the growth of the tournament. Don't forget that we have a new site for
the tournament. It's a beautiful space that should be perfect for a Judo
tournament. For those of you who need additional forms, I'm attaching the flyer
and registration form to this email. For directions and parking information
please go to www.menomoneeclub.org. If you have
any questions or concerns feel free to contact me directly at 773 230-6070.
Have a great day and see you on the 17th !
Thanks, Brett Wolf

NORTH-SOUTH TEAM WINNERS – THE NORTH
ONCE AGAIN WINS!!
In one of the most exciting team
matches in recent history, the North team fought to a 50 to 40 point lead going
into the last match. Daisuke Hirata, a Japanese National from the St
Louis area went against Deyan Kolev
from the North. Hirata, in spite of strong attempts to throw Kolev could only manage a Yuko (1/4 point) against
him. The final score was North 50, South 45. A
real squeaker.

hemisphere from Oct. 24-26. The tournament will be held at the U.S.
Olympic Training Center with the senior elite divisions being held on Oct. 24
and 25 and the master’s (30-years-old and over) and kata

at the Olympic Zone 1 Cup.

Gotay Wins
Gold at Pan Am Championships in Miami, Qualifies United States for Beijing at
57kg
(Miami, Fla.) – Always a
perfectionist, even after a gold medal win, it’s a rarity to hear Valerie Gotay (Harlingen, Texas / USA Judo National Training Site
at Harlingen) say she’s happy with how she fought at a tournament.
After dealing with injuries this
spring, Gotay wasn’t sure if she would be able to
compete at the Pan American Championships, but given that the event and the
Zone Cup on Sunday are the final qualifiers for the Olympic Games in North and
South America, she knew exactly how important this tournament would be.
Not only did she place well enough
to qualify the 57kg division for the United States, she won one of only two
gold medals for the United States this week… more>
Stevens Wins Silver, Qualifies
United States for Beijing at Pan American Championships in Miami
(Miami, Fla.) – Travis Stevens
(Glenville, N.Y. / USA Judo National Training Site at the Jason Morris Judo
Center) advanced to his second Pan Am final in as many tries on Thursday,
winning a silver medal and solidifying an 81kg division slot for the United
States in the 2008 Olympic Games.
Stevens fought Guilherme Luna (BRA) in
the Pan Am Championships final at the James L. Knight Center, but neither
player scored during the five-minute regulation period and the match went into
overtime where Luna threw Stevens to win the match… more>
Something to Think About
– words of wisdom
Read Each One Carefully
& Think About It a Second or Two
1. I like you not because of who you are, but
because of who I am when I am with you..
2. No man or woman is worth your tears, and the one
who is, won't make you cry.
3. Just because someone doesn't like you the way
you want them to, doesn't mean they don't like you
with all they have.
4. A true friend is someone who reaches for your
hand and touches your heart.
5. The worse way to miss someone is to be sitting
right beside them knowing you can' t have them
6. Never frown, even when you are sad, because you
never know who is falling in love with your smile.
7. To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the
world.
8. Don't waste your time on someone, who isn't
willing to waste their time on you.
9. Maybe God wants us to meet a few wrong people
before meeting the right one, so that when we finally meet the person, we will
know how to be grateful.
10. Don't
cry because it is over, smile because it happened.
11. There's
always going to be people that hurt you so what you have to do is keep on
trusting and just be more careful about who you trust next time around..
12. Make
yourself a better person and know who you are before you try and know someone
else and expect them to know you.
13. Don't
try so hard, the best things come when you least expect them to.
REMEMBER: WHATEVER HAPPENS, HAPPENS FOR A REASON.
True friends: How many people actually have 8 true friends? Hardly anyone
I know! But some of us have all right friends & some good friends!!!
Cherish each one of them.
As an addendum to the
O'Hare stories, it was call Orchard field because it had been built on a field
of apple orchards. I had the privilege and fun of taking school bus tours
on the taxiways/runways of O'Hare Field when the city was offering tours to
groups. I had known this history since the late 80's when I drove those
school tours. Fascinating, isn't it? Char
