Letter from Pat Ryan

Chicago is approaching a significant milestone in its quest to host the 2016 Olympic and Paralympics Games. On June 4, at SportAccord in Athens, Greece, the International Olympic Committee will release the list of cities that will move on to the Candidate phase of the process. A delegation from Chicago, including myself and the Mayor Daley, will be in Athens to represent the bid and will attend the announcement.

As I think about the work we’ve put in thus far, and the progress we’ve made, I can truly say that the bidding process has done much to raise the international profile of the city and to lay the foundation for a legacy of amateur sport among the city’s youth. Regardless of the outcome on June 4, we are committed to continuing this mission and promoting the values of the Olympic Movement. One of the truly distinctive assets of our bid is the exuberance and enthusiasm of the people of Chicago, the Midwest and the nation as a whole which the athletes and spectators will experience if we host the 2016 Games.

If we are fortunate to be chosen as a Candidate City on June 4, we look forward to your continued support in sharing that enthusiasm with the world.

Best Regards,

Patrick G. Ryan

Chicago 2016 Looks Forward to IOC Announcement at SportAccord

The Temple of Olympian Zeus, Athens

The selection of Candidate Cities by the IOC at Sport Accord on June 4 is the next step in a bidding process that began almost two years ago. The announcement is scheduled for 10:30 AM local time (go to www.olympic.org to watch the announcement live) and will be accompanied by a critique of the Applicant Files that each city submitted in January of this year. Our competition consists of six world-class cities, some of which have been through the bid process before. While we are optimistic about our chances for making it to the next round, we are also realistic about our relative strengths and weaknesses. We will continue to refine Chicago's bid plan to address the concerns of the Olympic Family and to present the best possible plan for delivering a spectacular Olympic and Paralympics Games experience for all. Watch for more details on our bid effort and visit the Web site frequently in the coming weeks for opportunities to get involved.

State Championships Requirement Waived for USA Judo National Junior Olympic Championships

During the formative years of USA Judo it was decided that athletes who wished to compete in the USA Judo National Junior Olympic Championships, and were not previously ranked on a junior elite national roster, would be required to compete in their respective State Championships or to secure a waiver letter from the State Chairman.

As our events have matured and become very strongly established, USA Judo is striving to be current and proactive with our membership and is pleased to announce that this requirement will no longer exist for the Junior Olympics, beginning with the 2008 event which will be held July 25-27 at Walt Disney World® Resort in Orlando, Fla. ... more>

Something to Think About - JUST THE BLACK NOTES

AMAZING and full of GRACE.

kn

This is very worth the time it takes to listen to and watch.  The notes below are very interesting too!

This was on Peter Cockrell's website. It is a You Tube of Wintley Phipps singing Amazing Grace.  He explains the song's history first, so for those of you who already know the history, be sure to stick with it. You will never think of the song Amazing Grace the same way again after you have heard him sing it. Gives you goose bumps!!

Awesome!
