EDITORIAL – FRANK FULLERTON
Good bye Frank. You were a loyal friend to US Judo at a time when Judo needed you. You were steadfast in your beliefs, tough in your arguments and unkind, at times, to folks who under estimated you. You made sure that what was right was right; what was wrong was wrong and you made sure that everyone understood the difference. This was no easy task in the developing USA Judo world.
You were not only a leader in the United States but you lead the charge and brought forth change to developing countries in South and Central America and the Caribbean Islands. You helped the little guys because the big guys should have been capable of helping themselves.
I last saw Mr Fullerton at the Pacific International Judo Tournament in Richmond BC Canada (Vancouver) this past February. You could tell he was slowing down in his gait and movements but his wit and mind were as sharp as ever and he was always asking questions to you that he already knew the answers to. He was always baiting you and having a good time doing it.
Judo will never see the likes of someone like you again. Some may say fine, I say, too bad. Good bye, Mr Fullerton and may you rest in peace, knowing that your contribution to Judo will be forever be remembered with fondness as well as angst, with loyalty as well as betrayal, with solidarity as well as conflict. You held the pieces together in the name of Judo and this entire Judo community has benefited from your wisdom.
God bless you. God be with you.

Frank Fullerton, Former USA Judo President and PJU Sports Director, Passes Away
(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – USA Judo was saddened to learn that former USA Judo President Frank Fullerton (El Paso, Texas) passed away at Providence Hospital in El Paso, Texas on Wednesday morning, June 25, 2008.
“Mr. Frank Fullerton has been an icon of judo in the United States and was one of the greatest supporters of judo in the Americas. His passing is a loss to judo in the world,” said USA Judo President, Dr Ron Tripp (Norman, Okla). I am personally saddened by his passing and call out to the American judo community to stop for a minute to recognize what Mr Fullerton did for judo in the United States, the Americas and the world. He helped so many athletes throughout his entire life. We are very thankful to Mr Fullerton and the legacy that he built these years.”
Fullerton, the Pan-American Judo Union Sports Director, has been one of the most influential people in the international community for several decades. During his distinguished career, Fullerton, a seventh degree black belt and international referee, was the first president of USA Judo, a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee Board of Directors and a delegate to the International Judo Federation. Dr Fullerton has received many honors for his work in the sport of Judo, including his receipt of the John Osako, Henry Stone and Adrea Bregman Memorial Awards and recognition as the Black Belt Magazine Man of the Year.
In addition, Fullerton was named the 1976 Texas Man of the Year and was inducted in the PJU Hall of Fame in 2006. Earlier that year, Dr Fullerton received the New York Athletic Club’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
USA Judo will notify the judo community as further details are made available.
Submit Your USA Judo Board Nominations by July 31
A Letter from USA Judo CEO Jose H. Rodriguez
Now that we have completed the Olympic Trials and have a short break until the Junior Olympics in Orlando, I wanted to reach out to the USA Judo community to remind all of you that this year is an election year. As such, the organization’s annual meeting will be held prior to the U.S. Open on Sept. 25 in Colorado Springs and will include the elections of members of a new Board of Directors.
The nomination and election information has been out since June 1 and the deadline for our members to submit nominations is July 3. USA Judo has made many great strides and gone through a lot of changes in these last three years. The Board that will be elected this coming September 25 during the National USA Judo Assembly will lead this organization into a new Olympic quadrennium.
The upcoming Olympic Games in Beijing I am sure will bring more good news to the sport and the organization. Our athletes have worked for four long years to represent us in these upcoming Olympic Games. In September, the organization will select the Board that will define the vision of this Olympic sport for the London 2012 Games. It is my hope that all of our members do take a minute to read over the nomination procedures as well as the election procedures and send the Chair of the nominating committee the names of those who they feel may serve the sport and the organization well over the next four years.
All final nominees who will be up for election will be posted on www.usjudo.org by July 28.
I hope all members of USA Judo take a minute to review the nominating procedures as well as the election procedure and take an active role in the further growth and development of judo in the United States.
Nominating procedures can be found at http://www.usjudo.org/documents/2008NominatingProcedures.pdf.
In order to submit a nomination, please complete the form found at http://www.usjudo.org/documents/2008USAJudoBoardofDirectorsNominationForm.doc.

Dear Fellow USA Judo Supporter:
Who doesn't love a great deal, right? Particularly when it comes to travel! If
this describes you...you'll love what just happened.
I just got off the phone with our travel company. This is so great! They are
really working hard for us...and for you. Our travel provider has access to
some really amazing travel deals that they want to offer to our supporters and
friends. These are the kind of deals you get to brag about when you go to your
neighbor's house for dinner.
In other words, these are deals you can't get just anywhere!
Starting next week, we will begin sending a special email travel newsletter to you and all USA Judo Supporters. In this newsletter, we'll showcase a selection of these special travel deals. Please understand, these are limited time offers and very limited in number, so it will be first come first serve.
You'll need to be quick to
take advantage of these prices
because when they are gone they are gone!
Now, that would be great enough right there, but there is even more. In each issue of the newsletter they will include, as an "added value", some really great travel secrets.
These are the "Tricks
of the Trade" that only
travel insiders know!
These guys know the travel industry and are going to share
with you information that the airlines and hotels would just as soon you not
know about! I know a lot of you travel quite a bit for judo and for business, so
these tips will be a "life saver" for you when you are on the road.
Because of the time sensitive nature of the newsletter I want you to know
exactly when it will be coming so you can look for it.
We will send you the
newsletter every two weeks on
Tuesday .
Don't forget because, as we said, these deals won't last
long.
If you can't wait until next Tuesday to get a great deal on travel, go ahead
and check out our website right now.

Something to
Think About – LEMONS and SUGAR
This should probably be taped to your bathroom mirror where one could read it
every day. You may not realize it, but it's 100% true.
1. There are at least two people in this world that you would die for.
2. At least 15 people in this world love you in some way.
3. The only reason anyone would ever hate you is because they wan t to be just like you.
4. A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone, even if they don't like you.
5. Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you before they go to sleep.
6. You mean the world to someone.
7. You are special and unique.
8. Someone that you don't even know exists loves you.
9. When you make the biggest mistake ever, something good comes from it.
10. When you think the world has turned its back on you take another look.
11. Always remember the compliments you
received. Forget about the rude remarks.
And always remember.... when life hands you Lemons, ask for tequila and call
me over!
Good friends are like stars. You don't always see them, But
you know they are always there.
'Whenever God Closes One Door He Always Opens Another, Even Though Sometimes
It's Hell in the Hallway'
I would rather have one rose and a kind word from a friend while I'm here than
a whole truckload when I'm gone.
Happiness keeps You Sweet, Trials keep You Strong, Sorrows keep You Human, Life
keeps You Humble, Success keeps You Glowing, But Only God keeps You Going
