FROM THE IJI VICE PRESIDENT: To everyone involved in the 2010 Illinois Open
State Judo Championships, on behalf of Illinois Judo, I would like to thank
everyone in the judo community that supported the 2010 Illinois Open State
Judo Championships, held April 10 at the Yorkville High School Academy. I
am pleased to have served as tournament Director for this 4th consecutive
year here in my hometown of Yorkville and want to recognize the team of
people that helped in putting together this event.
Thank you to all our friends of Atlas Xtreme Team and volunteers that helped
with set-up and clean- up for the tournament and for all your help in
running the event and hospitality. Thanks to my wife Denise and to Anne
Schultheis for doing such a great job with pre-registration and on-site
registration. Thanks again to Mike and Lori Tanamura and all others for
managing division pooling. Thanks to Gurnee Judo Club, Tohkon Judo Academy,
and Atlas Xtreme Team for running the technical tables. Thanks to Doug Tono
for supplying high quality Swain mats for the event; and thanks to Welcome
Mat Judo for supplying technical equipment. Special thanks to Ernie and
Cathy Saunders for your help with set-up and management of technical tables,
and to Mark Beldon for your help at the head table and with distribution of
awards. Thanks to Danny Henby from the Gurnee Judo Club and to John Strasky
from Atlas Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine Centers for providing athletic
training and medical services. A big thank you to all our referees for your
excellent work and for supporting this event. Thanks to all the athletes,
coaches and families that came to support the tournament and for bringing a
record number of competitors from across Illinois and our neighboring
states. The 2010 Illinois Open was a great success.

TOURNAMENT ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Judo Intensive Workout at MATS. Coach John Gussman and the Fox Valley Judo
Club will host Marcin Gliszewski, former member of the Polish National Team
for two workouts, 24 & 25 Apr 2010 at the Martial Arts Training Service
(MATS), 550 Industrial Drive, Naperville, Illinois.

Barrington Judo Open Workout: Saturday, 8 May 2010, 10:30am to 12:30 PM;
Barrington Judo, 28147 W. Commercial Ave #4 (immediately east of Barrington
Ice Arena), Lake Barrington, IL. Directions: about 2.5 miles northwest of
Barrington, just off Rt 14 (NW Hwy); (from west/south) via Rt 59 or I-90,
then take Rt 14 (NW Hwy) northwest, from Rt 14 (NW Hwy), take Pepper Rd
north; Commercial Ave is the first right - take that street east; First
parking lot after the ice arena; (from north/east) Rt 22 and go west
through Lake Zurich; Go past Good Shepherd Hospital and take a left at the
light (Kelsey Rd); Go south on Kelsey Rd, then the first left (Pepper Rd);
Go east then south on Pepper Rd to Commercial Ave - take a left. Similar to
prior open workouts: short warm-up & uchikomi, then randori in two shifts
(jrs/srs). Plenty of room for a great workout. Fees & eligibility: Must
be USJI/USJA/USJF registered and sign a waiver + $5 per person.
26th Annual North/South Open Judo Tournament. Coach Eiko Sheperd/Tournament
Director invites the Midwest judo community to attend the annual North and
South Tournament to be held on Saturday, 15 May 2010. See attached flyer.
